Americana Festival Contingency Plans for Inclement Weather

(Storms with Strong Winds and Lightning)

 

General Policy: The Americana Festival is committed to taking place rain or shine. Public safety is our highest priority. In the event of inclement weather involving strong winds and/or lightning, the Americana Committee will make a decision about whether to postpone or cancel an event.  All decisions to either cancel or postpone events will be posted on both Facebook and here our website. In addition, Law Enforcement vehicles will utilize their PA systems to announce event postponements or cancellations as needed, in addition to general updates on July 3rd at the stadium.

Important Reminders about Heat & your Health: With July temperatures and high humidity, staying cool is just as important as staying safe from storms. Please plan ahead: bring a refillable water bottle and drink often, even if you don't feel thirsty. Dress for the heat with light clothing, a hat, and sunscreen, and take regular breaks in the shade throughout the day.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) tents are located throughout the festival grounds and are marked on the official festival maps at www.americanafestival.org. If you or someone near you begins to feel dizzy, overheated, or unwell, please visit the nearest EMS tent or flag down a first responder right away.

Please keep an eye on children, older adults, and pets, who are especially vulnerable to heat. A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping the day fun and safe for everyone.

 

Pets : If you bring your dog to the festival, please keep their safety in mind. Pavement, asphalt, and blacktop can become dangerously hot in the summer sun and can burn paw pads quickly. As a general rule, if the ground is too hot for the back of your hand, it's too hot for their paws. Bring water for your pet, seek out shade and grassy areas, and watch for signs of overheating. When in doubt, it may be safest to leave pets at home.
