Judging Criteria:

Interview, Essay, Community Service


Applicants must comply with the following:

  • Interview (35%) Date: Wednesday May 4, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Washington Twp. Government Center, 8200 McEwen Rd. (All selected applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview)
  • Essay* (35%)
    High School Essay Theme: Why is it important to celebrate the 4th of July?  Essay must be a minimum of 500 words to 550 words maximum, typed, double-spaced. (Please do not place your name on the essay page.)
  • Community Service (30%)
    Based upon type of service, number of hours volunteered and levels of activity. The Americana Festival Community Service Form must be completed and attached to the application. The Joe Bowlus Community Service Award is given to a student finalist with the most outstanding record of community service.

Deadline

5 p.m. April 18. All application packets must be returned to The Americana Festival Scholarship Committee P.O. Box 41794, Centerville, Ohio 45441-0794 or delivered, to the Americana Office Second Floor, Town Hall, 27 North Main Street. All contest forms can be downloaded at www.americanafestival.org


* The recipient of the Joe Bowlus Community Service Award is selected from among Essay Contest applicants by a select committee appointed by the Americana Festival President. The Bowlus Community Service Award is based upon the quality and quantity of the
applicant’s service to his or her community.
